SBA- Market Survey Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point, Suffolk County, NY, Contract 6b Pilot Project

Background
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, is preparing plans and specifications for the Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point, Suffolk County, NY, Contract 6b Project. The goal of this contract is to provide flood mitigation through the elevation of homes to their respective Design Flood Elevation (DFE), which is determined by FEMA flood maps. This project aims to reduce the frequency of flooding that structures may experience while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

Work Details
The scope of work for the FIMP Contract 6b Pilot Project includes nonstructural home elevation for up to 73 homes. Tasks involve:
- disconnecting utilities;
- excavating around building footprints;
- evenly jacking up structures using appropriate cribbing/supports;
- installing new foundation elements and floors where slab separation is required;
- lowering houses and securing them to new foundations;
- reconnecting utilities;
- implementing floodproofing measures such as filling basements, protecting utilities, and raising air conditioning units or louvers as necessary.

Homes will be screened for structural integrity and environmental hazards prior to participation in the project.
