Background
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), part of the Department of the Interior, is conducting long-term monitoring of subtidal ecosystems around San Nicolas Island, California. This contract aims to secure a boat charter for research activities scheduled in Spring and Fall 2026, supporting ongoing ecological studies in the region.

The USGS has been monitoring these sites since 1980, utilizing various methods to assess marine biodiversity and ecosystem health.

Work Details
The contractor will provide a six-day boat charter in Spring 2026 and an optional identical charter in Fall 2026. The work includes:
- Departing from the vessel's port early morning or the evening prior to reach San Nicolas Island by 0800.
- Visiting multiple long-term monitoring sites for USGS scientists to conduct surveys using scuba equipment.
- Installing marking hardware on the sea floor at depths of approximately 50 feet using air or battery-powered drills.
- Navigating to specific GPS coordinates and anchoring close to these locations.
- Providing onboard equipment including a scuba compressor and filled tanks as needed.
- Ensuring the vessel meets safety and operational specifications, including being U.S. Coast Guard licensed, equipped with necessary navigation and safety gear, providing meals for biologists, and having adequate berthing quarters.
