Background
The San Juan Cattle Guard Replacement project is issued by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is located in the San Juan National Forest, Durango, Colorado.

The mission of this project is to replace aging infrastructure to support timber, recreation, and range traffic for the next 60 years. The project magnitude is estimated between $500,000 and $1,000,000.

Work Details
The contractor will replace 44 failing cattle guards across the forest with prefabricated concrete bases and steel grates. Specific tasks include:

- Providing all materials and delivering them to predetermined sites;
- Mobilizing to each site;
- Removing old concrete bases, running surfaces, and posts while retaining existing signage;
- Implementing traffic control with advanced warning signs;
- Installing prefabricated concrete bases at the appropriate grade;
- Ensuring level placement of running surfaces;
- Compacting aggregate around the structure;
- Installing new steel posts and wings when possible;
- Tying in existing range fences;
- Installing existing warning signs on new posts; and
- Placing 5 cubic yards of material at approaches for smooth transitions.

Period of Performance
The contractor must begin performance within 14 calendar days and complete it within 36 calendar days after receiving the notice to proceed.

The work will be performed at various locations within the San Juan National Forest in Durango, Colorado.
