Rov Obs Retrieval

Background
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has a requirement for remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) services to support the recovery of an ocean-bottom seismograph (OBS) from approximately 200 meters water depth in Skilak Lake, Alaska. This work is part of the USGS Subduction Zone Marine Geohazards Project and involves collaboration with scientists from the USGS Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources and Earthquake Hazards Programs. The goal is to recover an OBS that was deployed in May 2024, which has not surfaced after triggering its release mechanism.

Work Details
The contractor will provide all services, labor, supervision, equipment, travel, and materials necessary for ROV operations to recover the OBS. The tasks include:

1. Visual inspection of the OBS's current condition using ROV technology.
2. Attaching a recovery line to the OBS for retrieval by a surface vessel.
3. Conducting ROV operations from the USGS’s R/V Lutris, a 25-foot Boston Whaler.
4. Mobilization and demobilization at the USGS Earthquake Hazard Program’s warehouse in Anchorage, Alaska.
5. The work will require three onsite workdays plus two days for mobilization and demobilization.
6. The ROV must be capable of operating in depths up to 250 meters, be hand deployable from a small vessel, operate for at least 12 hours on surface-supplied power, have real-time video feed capabilities, and include multibeam imaging sonar for locating instrumentation in low visibility conditions.
7. The vendor must provide two experienced ROV operators with a history of recovering large oceanographic instruments.

Period of Performance
The period of performance is from August 28, 2025, to September 8, 2025.

Place of Performance
The contract will be performed at Skilak Lake, Alaska.
