Request for Information (RFI), Vehicle Integrated Point Enhanced RADIAC (VIPER)

Background
The Joint Product Lead, Radiological Nuclear Defense (JPdL RND) under the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) is conducting a market survey to identify potential industry sources capable of providing Vehicle Integrated Platform Enhanced RADIAC (VIPER) development, testing, and platform integration support.

This initiative aims to enhance the monitoring capabilities of U.S. Army platforms in the context of increasing nuclear battlefield threats and the need for effective radiation exposure management for service members.

Work Details
The VIPER system is designed to integrate into various Army ground-based and aviation platforms including: Stryker Family of Vehicles (FoV), Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV) Sensor Suite, Abrams Tank, Bradley Fighting Vehicle, Army Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, M10 Booker Light Tank, Chinook, Black Hawk, and Apache.

The system provides network-capable integrated gamma dose rate, total dose, and prompt dose detection and monitoring both inside and outside of these platforms. It aims to replace outdated systems such as AN/VDR-2 and AN/UDR-13 which are no longer in production and lack modern networking capabilities. The VIPER system will calculate outside dose using attenuation factors based on materials used in platform construction and will feature dedicated data ports for immediate personnel protection actions.

The program office seeks solutions that incorporate mature proven technologies (COTS) while ensuring compliance with military environmental standards such as MIL STD 810H and/or MIL STD 461G.
