Region 5 SCASA Vegetation Management/Hazardous Fuels Reduction IDIQ   12

The scope of this contract is to secure fuel management services to reduce vegetation within the forests, the risks of wildland fires, and to improve forest health. Fuel management services will also cover areas affected by Wildland Fire to reduce burned fuel accumulation of dead standing trees and brush.

Treatments such as hand and mechanical thinning, mechanical cut and bunch of trees for pile burning, brushing, chipping, piling, and fuel break construction have been shown to reduce the risk of wildland fire and reduce the severity of fires that may occur.

Background
The Region 5 SCASA Vegetation Management/Hazardous Fuels Reduction IDIQ is issued by the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region. The contract aims to manage vegetation and reduce hazardous fuels across several national forests in Southern California, including Angeles, Cleveland, Los Padres, San Bernardino, Sequoia, and Sierra National Forests.

Work Details
The contract involves fuels reduction/modification, fuels removal, timber stand improvement, and related work on approximately 220 acres. Tasks include mechanical and hand treatments such as mastication and pruning to reduce chaparral fuels. Masticated material will be chipped to specified dimensions and scattered within the project area. Tree-form oaks will be retained and pruned in masticated areas. Untreated pockets of oaks will provide wildlife refuge while blending fuelbreaks into the landscape. Conifer regeneration or trees 1-3 inches in diameter will remain intact. Broom spp., a noxious weed found within the project area, will be removed and disposed of off-site.

Period of Performance
The contract time is estimated to start on May 15, 2020, with a duration of 365 days including delays for weather and other restrictions.

The project is located north of the City of Santa Clarita, CA; SBBM, Los Angeles County, California.
