Rapid Experimental Missionized Autonomy (REMA)

ID: DARPA-PS-23-12 • Type: Presolicitation

Description

Commercial-quality drones demonstrate surprising usefulness on the modern battlefield. Rapid Experimental Missionized Autonomy (REMA) will enhance commercially available and stock military drones with a subsystem to enable autonomous operation. The program will focus on delivering autonomy without being tied to a specific drone design. REMA will look to develop these capabilities through rapid spirals of development. New mission functionality will be delivered through development spirals accelerating from three (3) month duration at program inception to one (1) month by program completion.
Background
The Rapid Experimental Missionized Autonomy (REMA) program aims to enhance commercially available and stock military drones with a subsystem to enable autonomous operation. The program will focus on delivering autonomy without being tied to a specific drone design. REMA will look to develop these capabilities through rapid spirals of development, with new mission functionality delivered through development spirals accelerating from three (3) month duration at program inception to one (1) month by program completion.

Work Details
The REMA program spans 18 months consisting of up to 15 spirals addressing specific challenge problems. Performers will develop, collaborate, and deliver an autonomy subsystem for drones. Each spiral will begin with a collaboration event at a rotating location specified by the Government. At the conclusion of each spiral, performers will be required to show and prove out the deliverable for that spiral. The program execution should include regular collaborative meetings and teleconferences to inform of program design and development status.

Period of Performance
The REMA program spans 18 months consisting of up to 15 spirals addressing specific challenge problems, during which performers will develop, collaborate, and deliver an autonomy subsystem for drones.
