NOI Sole Source Contract to BWX Technologies, Inc.   2

Background
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), specifically the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), is issuing a sole-source contract to BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) for the development of a Domestic Uranium Enrichment Pilot Plant. This initiative is part of NNSA's mission to ensure a reliable and economical supply of low-enriched uranium (LEU) for defense purposes. It also involves transitioning to highly enriched uranium (HEU) production in the future to support naval nuclear propulsion.

Work Details
The contract encompasses several critical tasks:

1. Design, licensing, construction, and operation of a uranium enrichment pilot plant facility.

2. Demonstration of production readiness for the Domestic Uranium Enrichment Centrifuge Experiment (DUECE) technology.

3. Preparation of the physical site for construction of the pilot plant.

4. Completion of relevant licensing activities necessary for operation.

5. Initiation of procurement for any long-lead equipment required for operation.

6. Demonstration of DUE centrifuge manufacturing readiness.

7. Construction of necessary infrastructure to support the pilot plant operations.

Period of Performance
The anticipated contract award date is September 29, 2025, with ongoing requirements supporting the DUECE pilot plant deployment.

Place of Performance
The pilot plant will be constructed at a site in Erwin, Tennessee.
