Description

DARPA's QuANET program seeks to develop quantum-augmented networks that add novel security and covertness properties inherent in quantum communications to classical, non-quantum, network infrastructures that trade security against interoperability. QuANET will develop the hardware, protocols and software tools required for missions and critical infrastructure, enabling the first viable transition strategy to operationalize quantum communications. QuANET's objective is to implement the world's first operationally fielded quantum-augmented network.
Background
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking to develop quantum-augmented networks through the QuANET program. The program aims to add novel security and covertness properties inherent in quantum communications to classical, non-quantum network infrastructures. The objective is to implement the world’s first operationally fielded quantum-augmented network.

Work Details
The program consists of several phases focusing on the design, development, and testing of quantum network interface cards (qNICs) and capabilities leveraging fiber optic links and over-air links. The program also includes collaboration with potential transition partners, integration events, workshops, principal investigator meetings, and various deliverables such as technical documents, hardware instances, source code, slide presentations, technical status reports, financial status reports, and final phase reports.

Period of Performance
The intent is to produce the first operationally-fielded quantum-augmented network. Collaboration with potential transition partners will occur continuously throughout the program. Integration events will occur every twelve months, while workshops and principal investigator meetings will alternate every three months.

Place of Performance
Locations for all program events (kickoff, PI meetings, integration, workshops) will be conducted in-person and will alternate between Washington, DC and San Diego, CA starting in Washington, DC.
