NIST Preventative Maintenance Services for Komar Shredding Equipment

Background
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking qualified sources to provide recurring preventive maintenance services for NIST-owned Komar industrial waste shredding equipment located at their Gaithersburg, Maryland campus. The goal of this contract is to ensure the operational efficiency and safety of the equipment, which includes a Komar Auger Compactor and a Komar Electro Shear Shredder.

This Sources Sought Notice is part of NIST's market research and acquisition planning efforts.

Work Details
The contractor will perform semi-annual preventive maintenance services, which include: inspecting all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components; lubricating and calibrating moving components; identifying worn or damaged components; testing equipment operation against manufacturer specifications; cleaning components; documenting mechanical conditions and providing recommendations for corrective actions.

After each visit, a written service report must be provided detailing maintenance performed and equipment condition. Additionally, the contractor will assess reported equipment malfunctions, recommend repairs with quotations, develop a site-specific Safety Plan, provide personal protective equipment for staff, maintain safety training records, submit a roster of working staff for background checks, and comply with NIST's security requirements.

Period of Performance
The anticipated period of performance is one 12-month base period followed by four 12-month option periods, approximately from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2031.

Place of Performance
The contract will be performed on-site at NIST, 100 Bureau Drive, Building 301, Gaithersburg, MD 20899.

Bidder Requirements
Bidders must demonstrate experience in performing preventive maintenance on industrial auger and shear shredding equipment or similar machinery. Contractor personnel should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Compliance with OSHA standards and NIST's Contractor Safety Program is required. All employees must obtain necessary background investigations based on their position sensitivity.
