Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division Modeling and Simulation Services

Background
The Naval Sea Systems Command Surface Warfare Center Carderock (NSWCCD) is issuing a notice of intent to award a sole source contract for modeling and simulation services to Advanced Rotorcraft Technology, Inc. This contract aims to support advanced rotorcraft technology development for naval applications, enabling virtual prototyping and risk reduction before physical testing.

Work Details
The contractor will provide modeling and simulation services with specific objectives including:

1. Model Development: Create FLIGHTLAB models of PDR systems in two configurations (6 ft test rotor and 3 ft demonstrator vehicle) utilizing blade element theory and dynamic wake modeling.

2. Mission Capability Demonstration: Simulate cargo mission profiles such as vertical takeoff, heavy load pickup, and return to base operations.

3. Control Strategy Evaluation: Develop control approach variants including propeller speed control and rotor blade flaps.

4. Performance and Loads Analysis: Analyze system performance characteristics and structural loads.

5. Aerodynamic Interference Analysis: Use Viscous Vortex Particle Method (VVPM) for rotor-propeller interactions.

6. Structural Loads Analysis: Evaluate blade stress under various flight conditions.

7. Scalable to Mission Capabilities: Adjust weight and payload for full-scale missions.

8. Knowledge Transfer: Train NSWC engineers on FLIGHTLAB methodologies to enable independent operations post-contract.
