ID: 140G0222Q0193 • Type: Synopsis Solicitation

Description

PURCHASE OF A CUSTOMER CARE PACKAGE FOR THE LEICA PEGASUS BACKPACK
Background
The USGS, Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) in La Crosse, Wisconsin would like to purchase the software maintenance and updates for a mobile Leica Pegasus:Backpack survey kit to support 3D mobile mapping. The Basic Customer Care Package (CCP) will cover the maintenance and updates needed to keep the Pegasus:Backpack operating for another fiscal year in order to complete the projects that require use of the backpack. The Pegasus:Backpack uses a combination of 2D and 3D mapping to map routes and study areas in support of USGS river and forestry research. The USGS mission is to support decision makers and resource managers in the preservation of life, health, and safety of the American people. Mapping in 3D is an innovative way to help accurately support environmental restoration, invasive species management, and natural disaster response.

The Leica Pegasus:Backpack provides accurate, efficient 3D mapping and imaging to better understand the landscape and environment around us. Like other equipment that requires specific software and yearly maintenance costs, the Leica Pegasus:Backpack needs the Basic Customer Care Package (CCP), 1-year software customer support and software maintenance provided by Leica.

Work Details
The objective is to use the 3D mobile mapping system and software to collect terrestrial lidar of small study areas. The mapped areas will provide a high-resolution view that could support vegetation density analysis, changes in sloping banks along the UMRS, floodplain forest canopy measurements, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) or Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) infrastructure that support the UMRS ecosystem.

The CCP Basic is required for customer support and firmware/software maintenance, to ensure the software is kept up to date with the latest productivity and QA enhancements in firmware solutions. Technical requirements include various Software Modules for the Leica Pegasus:Backpack such as System Software (Mobile Data Acquisition), Pegasus:Manager (Calibration, Mission Planning, SLAM Navigation, Raw-Processing, NovAtel Inertial Explorer, Infinity Basic, Trajectory Adjustment Basic, Real Time Data Exchange, and MapFactory for ArcGIS). Deliverables for the CCP Basic include Firmware/Software Maintenance and Customer Support for various components of the Pegasus:Backpack.
