MAC Consolidation & Contract Award Period of Performance

Background
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), part of the Department of Health and Human Services, is seeking public feedback through this Request for Information (RFI) regarding the consolidation of Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) jurisdictions and the potential awarding of future MAC contracts with a 10-year period of performance.

CMS has historically managed Medicare claims through MACs since the early 2000s, replacing previous contractors to enhance efficiency and competition. Currently, there are sixteen MAC contracts across seven companies providing claims administration services.

Work Details
1) The RFI seeks input on the consolidation of current A/B MAC Jurisdictions: A/B J5 and A/B HH+H J6 into a new 'Jurisdiction G', and A/B J8 and A/B HH+H J15 into a new 'Jurisdiction Q'.

2) It also explores the implications of awarding MAC contracts with a maximum period of performance extending to ten years, as allowed by recent legislation. This RFI is not a formal request for proposal (RFP) and does not commit CMS to any contract awards at this time.

The potential period of performance for future MAC contracts may extend up to ten years, as per legislative changes allowing longer contract durations.

The geographic locations affected by this consolidation include various states across the United States, specifically those within the current jurisdictions: J5 (Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska), J6 (Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, plus additional states for Home Health and Hospice claims), J8 (Indiana, Michigan), and J15 (Kentucky, Ohio, plus additional states for Home Health and Hospice claims).
