UPDATED ATTACHEMENT with corrected clauses all other items stay the same.

In the Lucky Peak Nursery Greenhouse, often multiple seeds are sown into each cell of a styroblock/plastic tray, the container in which seedlings are grown. Once the seeds have germinated, we need to pull out or clip all but one plant in each cell. This document explains the need for contract help and how the process should be done. The target number of seeds per cell does not mean there will be two seedlings in every cell. Some cells probably received more and some received less than intended. It is recommended that interested bidders inspect the LPN greenhouse before submitting a bid.

Scope

In all, 6,260 styroblocks/Plastic trays (approximately seedlings) need to be thinned. These blocks contain 112 or 128 plug cells. The blocks are on rolling benches in the green house and on stationary metal pallets in outdoor irrigation sites. There will be multiple species of conifers and one species of shrubs. Most of the blocks will be sown with 2 seeds per cell, however the range will be from 1 to 5 seeds per cell and the actual number of emerged seedlings depends upon the germination rates of each source.

Lucky Peak Nursery will sow on three different occasions. Due to delays from new administrative regulations, thinning needs to begin as soon as possible.

Background
The USDA Forest Service, specifically the Lucky Peak Nursery, is seeking contract assistance for thinning seedlings in their greenhouse. The nursery's mission involves growing various species of conifers and shrubs, and the goal of this contract is to ensure optimal growth by managing seedling density. Due to delays from new administrative regulations, the need for thinning has become urgent.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for thinning a total of 6,260 styroblocks/plastic trays containing approximately seedlings. Each block consists of 112 or 128 plug cells. The tasks include:
1. Pulling out or clipping all but one plant per cell without damaging the remaining plant or soil plug.
2. Leaving the healthiest plant (the one most likely to succeed) in each cell; if all plants are equal in health, leaving the most mature plant; if maturity is equal, leaving the plant closest to the center of the cell.
3. Removing any weeds found in the cells.
4. Discarding thinned plants in provided dumpsters and ensuring that all benches are returned to their original locations at the end of each day.
5. Conducting work during normal nursery business hours (Monday – Friday, 0700-1530) and adhering to safety and cleanliness protocols.

Period of Performance
The contract period is from June 2, 2025, to October 1, 2025.

Place of Performance
Services will be performed at the USDA Forest Service, Lucky Peak Nursery, located approximately 17 miles east of Boise, ID on Highway 21.
