Background
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), specifically the Center for Neutron Research (NCNR), is seeking to establish a contract for the processing and disposal of Low-Level Radioactive Waste (LLRW).

The NCNR's mission is to advance economic and technical excellence in the U.S. by providing world-class neutron measurement capabilities to researchers from various sectors. This contract aims to ensure regulatory compliance with federal and state laws, including those enforced by the NRC, EPA, and DOT, while supporting the safe operation of critical research facilities.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for:
1. Providing guidance on packaging, volume reduction, processing, and shipping of LLRW, including preparation of end-burial documents;
2. Arranging transportation to burial and processing sites, covering all associated costs;
3. Proposing a waste processing method that meets waste site acceptance criteria in compliance with 10 CFR 61.55;
4. Ensuring all services are performed in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.

Period of Performance
The contract will have an initial period of one year with four optional one-year extensions. The first shipment pickup is expected within 90 days after contract award.

Place of Performance
Performance will occur at the NIST facility in Gaithersburg, MD, as well as at the contractor's processing and burial facilities.
