Leica Vibratome (VT1000S)

Background
The USAMRIID Pathology division seeks to procure a new Leica VT1000S fully automated vibratome to replace the outdated Leica Vibratome purchased in 1987. The vibratome is essential for sectioning fresh fixed biological samples for electron microscopy analysis, and the current equipment is decades beyond its life expectancy.

Work Details
The requirement is for the acquisition of (1) Leica VT1000S vibratome meeting specific brand name specifications. The vibratome shall have a vibrating blade capable of producing high-quality thick sections of various sample materials including fresh fixed biological tissues, foams or sponges, soft rubbers, or plants. It should be able to cut a range of thickness from 15 microns up to 40 microns, feed at a speed of at least 15 mm per 0.59 inches, rapidly move the vibrating blade towards the specimen, have single stroke or continuous stroke operation mode, specimen retraction motion off switch feature, capability of adjusting section thickness and stroke length, a section thickness totalizer, splash-proof membrane keyboard, and magnifier. The contractor must be an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) authorized dealer, distributor or reseller for the quoted equipment such that OEM warranty and service are provided and maintained by the OEM. The equipment shall be new and not refurbished or used.

Period of Performance
Delivery is required within 4 weeks from acceptance of the contract.
