Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition System

ORNL is looking to expand their capabilities in Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition (LP - DED) additive manufacturing. The necessary system specifications are listed in the attached Statement of Work. An adequate LP - DED system will allow for small scale processing of high temperature materials in an inert environment (low oxygen content allowed). The system will allow for multi material delivery control as a function of layer height / number. The system will require small amounts of metal powder in order to build specimens. The system will also conform to space and weight requirements listed in the Statement of Work under Specifications.

Background
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking to enhance its capabilities in Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition (LP - DED) additive manufacturing.

The goal of this contract is to procure a system that allows for the small-scale processing of high-temperature materials in an inert environment, which is essential for advanced manufacturing applications. This system will facilitate multi-material delivery control based on layer height and number, and it must adhere to specific space and weight requirements outlined in the Statement of Work.

Work Details
The contract involves the procurement of a Laser Powder Directed Energy Deposition System with the following specifications:
- Power Source: Ytterbium Fiber Laser Beam
- Beam Power: Variable up to 700 W
- Beam Diameter: 400 µm or less
- Build Volume Size: No larger than 150 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm
- Purge System: Capable of achieving an inert environment with at least 50 ppm O2
- Pump Down Time: Must achieve in no more than 30 minutes
- Powder Feeders: Capable of handling 5 or more independently at a time
- Control Software: Must control hoppers independently to mix materials during printing
- Footprint: Less than 1.5 m x 1.5 m in X and Y dimensions
- Weight: Less than 500 kg
- System Power: 220 V – Single Phase. Additionally, the seller must provide installation services, on-site training, and documentation on electrical certifications.

Period of Performance
The anticipated period of performance is six months after the purchase order has been issued.
