Description

The purpose of this requirement is to provide and install an engineered fire suppression system within the diesel generator rooms of
three (3) 60T portal cranes located at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. The fire suppression system is required to reduce the risk of fire
associated with diesel-powered equipment, protect personnel and Government assets, minimize operational downtime, and ensure
continued safe and reliable crane operations in support of the shipyard mission requirements. The system shall be installed in
accordance with applicable NFPA standards including NFPA 12, NFPA 72, and NFPA 2001, as specified in the Statement of Work
(SOW).

Background
The Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) is seeking to enhance safety and operational reliability by installing an engineered fire suppression system within the diesel generator rooms of three (3) 60T portal cranes. This initiative aims to mitigate fire risks associated with diesel-powered equipment, protect personnel and government assets, minimize operational downtime, and ensure continued safe crane operations in support of the shipyard's mission requirements.

The installation must comply with applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards including NFPA 12, NFPA 72, and NFPA 2001.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for the installation of a fire suppression system inside the diesel generator room of three (3) 60T portal cranes at NNSY in Portsmouth, Virginia. The worksite is located approximately 75 feet above the crane rails and accessed via a ladder that does not require fall protection.

Key requirements include:
- Providing all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for employees, ensuring compliance with site PPE regulations. Mandatory PPE includes hard hats, safety glasses with side shields, steel-toed safety shoes, and hearing protection.
- Implementing fall protection measures around open-sided platforms and work surfaces as per OSHA regulations.
- Maintaining cleanliness and spill control during operations, including immediate notification of any spills to the Fire Division.
- Adhering to restrictions on prohibited items on federal property.
