The Jacksonville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be holding an Industry Day event regarding the environmental updates associated with the forthcoming Port Everglades Deepening project and seeks feedback from the coral reef nursery community, contractors with experience overseeing complex mitigation restoration projects, and supporting environmental contractors, which will only be used for preliminary planning purposes. Seeking specific information, a list of questions will be uploaded to the SAM.gov website under the subject Notice ID. The Government is requesting answers to questions regarding artificial reef and boulder reef creation with a focus on attracting biota inhabiting coral communities, coral nursery capabilities including ideas or experience generating larger numbers of corals for outplanting; relocation of large number of corals, sponges and octocorals, removal of corals from tires; experience in outplanting benthic organisms, site preparation and oversight of sub-contractors overseeing personnel providing this type of work. These more detailed discussions will be held during the Industry Day breakout sessions.

Event Details: The Government is planning an Industry Day event to obtain feedback from both the dredging industry and supporting environmental contractors. The Government is requesting answers to questions regarding artificial reef and boulder reef creation with a focus on attracting biota inhabiting coral communities, coral nursery capabilities including ideas or experience generating and/or growing and outplanting a large number and wide variety of corals; ideas or experience in preventing disease or actions to maximize the success of outplanting/ relocating corals, sponges and octocorals, experience outplanting and site preparation as well as oversight of sub-contractors overseeing personnel providing this type of work. These more detailed discussions will be held during the Industry Day breakout sessions.
The Government will provide an overview presentation on the history and status of the Port Everglades Deepening project, including the monitoring and adaptive management plan coordinated with regulatory agencies, to date.
If interested in attending this event, firms can register utilizing the link provided above and request a one-hour breakout session to answer the Governments questions. Note: The Government is not seeking responses to questions in advance of the event, rather, is requesting firms come prepared to discuss the questions, applicable to their area of expertise, during their breakout session. The goal of the breakout sessions is for the Government to obtain information from coral reef practitioners, those experienced in executing, monitoring and/or overseeing benthic habitat or similar mitigation projects. Input from the coral reef industry including practitioners is critical to the success of the subject project.
