Background
The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Engineering Laboratory (EL) promotes U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness in areas of critical national priority by anticipating and meeting the measurement science and standards needs for technology-intensive manufacturing and construction. NIST is a non-regulatory agency that conducts research to improve codes, standards, and practices for buildings and lifeline infrastructure, aiming to reduce risks associated with environmental and man-made hazards.

This contract supports the NIST Reducing Risks due to Environmental and Man-made Hazards Project, which addresses the impacts of extreme hazards on the built environment.
