HHS CDC - Assessment of ME CFS Education in Medical Schools - MRAS

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the General Services Administration (GSA), is conducting market research to address the educational gaps in medical and nursing schools regarding Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). This initiative seeks to better equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge necessary to diagnose and manage ME/CFS effectively. Despite affecting approximately 3.3 million Americans and imposing a substantial economic burden, ME/CFS remains underdiagnosed due to limited educational coverage in medical curricula. The overarching goal of this contract is to assess the current state of ME/CFS education and propose long-term improvements.

The work being requested involves a comprehensive needs assessment focusing on ME/CFS education within U.S. medical and nursing programs. The contractor will conduct a baseline assessment through a large-scale web-based survey targeting at least 5,000 respondents from various training institutions. This survey aims to gather data on existing educational content related to ME/CFS, identifying gaps that hinder effective diagnosis and management by healthcare providers. The contractor will also coordinate roll-out events designed to discuss survey findings, fostering dialogue around necessary actions for curriculum enhancement.

In addition to conducting surveys, the contractor is tasked with developing online educational tools such as infographics, how-to guides, symptom checkers, and data visualization dashboards. These resources aim to bridge knowledge gaps among healthcare professionals by providing accessible information on ME/CFS symptoms and diagnostic criteria. By leveraging these tools, the initiative seeks not only to enhance immediate understanding but also to ensure sustained improvements in how medical professionals are trained regarding this complex condition.
