Description

Please see the attached documents for details.

Background
The contract is issued by NASA, specifically the Astronaut Office (CB) and Aircraft Operations Division (AOD). The mission of this contract is to provide helicopter training for NASA pilots to ensure they are proficient and capable of operating helicopters safely, particularly in preparation for lunar missions. The goal is to re-establish pilot qualifications and enhance safety through specialized training at Bell Academy in Dallas, Texas.

Work Details
1. Training will be provided on demand with Bell Academy to re-establish proficiency and provide a focused autorotation (energy management) course required for CB and AOD helicopter pilots in command (PIC). This training is essential for minimizing risks associated with operating a single-engine helicopter.

2. In-depth review of aircraft operations will be conducted, leveraging the manufacturer’s knowledge due to the age of NASA's Johnson Space Center helicopters.

3. FAA rated Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD) will be utilized for emergency simulations, procedural practice, and development of emergency procedures within the NASA helicopter syllabus.

4. Pilots will complete the Initial Course offered by Bell Academy, which is necessary as AOD currently cannot train these pilots internally due to instructor shortages. This training will facilitate internal program establishment and minimize delays in astronaut training related to HLS and Artemis 3 crew assignments.

5. The on-demand training capability at Bell Academy allows CB to maintain proficiency flying until NASA achieves self-sustainability.

6. A training report detailing hours flown will be provided by Bell Academy upon completion of the training program.

Place of Performance
The training will take place at Bell Academy located in Dallas, Texas.
