Heated probing station with optical access

BACKGROUND

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requires a heated probing station with optical access and a controlled environment to integrate into a optics system The project is being pursued to support the development of electo-optical measurements of defect states to support projects in diamond magnetometry and wide-bandgap semiconductors. The probe station will be used for testing the optoelectronic behavior of defects by allowing low noise electrical measurements of defects.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for a heated probing station with optical access and a controlled environment and is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing a solution that will achieve the specifications described below:

The Contractor shall provide one (1) heated probing station with optical access and a controlled environment that meet the following minimum specifications:

1. The system must have a minimum of four electrical probes with 10 fA or lower noise, including low noise during heated measurements. System must allow for electrical isolation of the sample stage.
2. The system must allow movement of the probes using micromanipulators without breaking the environmental control (vacuum). XYZ micromanipulators can be mechanically or remotely controllable (i.e., through piezo-electric positioners) and have positional accuracy of > 20 microns with < 40 micron probe tips.
3. The sample mounting plate must be electrically isolated from the chamber, with external electrical connection such as a BNC or triaxial connector.
4. Environmental control to include vacuum down to 0.01 Torr or better, and access for gas purging
5. The system must evenly heat sample substrates of up to 10 mm x 10 mm up to temperature of 400 C with temperature stability of < 0.1 C and a controllable heating rate between 0.05 C to 20 C per minute.
6. Sample area must allow samples of 10 mm x 10 mm with thickness of up to 1 mm.
7. The system must be within the dimensions required by the current optics set up: the footprint of the system must be no larger than 600 mm x 300 mm and chamber must be no higher than 130 mm in the direction of optical axis. The optical access area must have clearance to allow positioning of optics such that peripheral items, such as micromanipulators for probe positioning or screwheads on the chamber, must be no be taller than the optical access area by 50 mm if located more than 40 mm from the optical access window.
8. The sample area must be optically accessible for wavelength ranges from 900 nm to 300 nm, which can be accomplished by periodically changing out the optical access window.
9. The optical access shall be reflection mode from the same side as the probes.
10. The optically accessible area should be large enough to allow for access to the entire 10 mm x 10 mm sample area.
11. To facilitate external optics, the external top of the sample chamber optical access window should be a maximum of 12 mm from the sample mounting area with a diameter of no less than 40 mm in the horizontal plane to allow access for objectives with 12 mm working distance.
12. Any mechanical or electrical components to control the heating or chamber environment cannot be mounted to the same table as the probe station to allow vibrational isolation.
13. Probe station must be mountable to a standard 1-inch grid optics table.
14. The sample chamber must be able to be mounted with the sample oriented horizontally.
15. Weight of the sample chamber and probes must not exceed 10 kg.
16. The software must be compatible with Python programming.
17. All electrical facilities requirements are 60Hz and based on 120 volts.

  • Discuss whether the equipment that your company sells and which you describe in your response to this notice may be customized to specifications and indicate any limits to customization.
• Identify any aspects of the NIST market research notice, including instructions, and draft minimum specifications in the BACKGROUND section you cannot meet and state why. Please offer suggestions for how the market research notice and draft minimum specifications could be made more competitive.
• State whether the proposed equipment is manufactured in the United States and, if not, state the name of the country where the equipment is manufactured.
• Identify any plans/possibilities for changes in manufacturing location of the aforementioned equipment and provide relevant details, including timeline.

Indicate if your company performs the facility renovation services or typically subcontracts the work to another company. Indicate if your company would be interested in inspecting the intended installation site during the market research phase.
• State published price, discount, or rebate arrangements for recommended equipment and/or provide link to access company's published prices for equipment and services.
• If the recommended equipment and related services are available for purchase on any existing Federal Supply Schedule contract(s) or other contracts against which NIST may be able to place orders, identify the contract number(s) and other relevant information.
• Identify any customers in the public or private sectors to which you provided the recommended or similar equipment. Include customer(s) information: company name, phone number, point of contact, email address.
• Provide any other information that you believe would be valuable for NIST to know as part of its market research for this requirement.
• State if you require NIST to provide additional information to improve your understanding of the government's requirement and/or would like to meet with NIST representatives to discuss the requirement and the capabilities of the identified equipment.
