Hazardous Material Testing in Six (6) Houses at Mesa Verde National Park
Background
The National Park Service is seeking hazardous material testing and assessment of the interior and exterior building materials for six houses in Mesa Verde National Park (MEVE) in the White House district. The houses were built in the 1930s during the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) era construction effort and are deemed eligible for the National Historic Register. The hazardous material testing and assessment will determine the presence and location of asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, lead-containing paint, mold, and other hazardous materials present in the buildings. The assessment will also determine the condition and potentially hazardous nature of the materials, documenting any deteriorated materials or paint that have failed.
The project must be conducted in strict accordance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, applicable National Park Service (NPS) policy/guidance, and Colorado law/guidance.

Work Details
The scope of work includes performing hazardous material testing and assessment of the interior and exterior building materials for six houses in Mesa Verde National Park. This involves identifying asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, lead-containing paint, mold, mercury-containing light switches and thermostats, smoke detectors, fluorescent lamps, PCB light ballasts, and other hazardous materials present in the buildings. The assessment will also determine the condition of the materials and document any deteriorated materials or paint that have failed. Options for encapsulation and/or remediation should be included if wall or ceiling finish coatings are found to contain asbestos during the assessment.
The project must be conducted in strict accordance with EPA regulations, NESHAP, OSHA regulations, applicable NPS policy/guidance, and Colorado law/guidance.
