However, improper use can bring risk of high radiation exposure resulting in chronic illness, injury or even death.

The New York Harbor Healthcare System, encompassing the Brooklyn and Manhattan Campuses, is seeking to procure radiation safety badges. This initiative aims to protect personnel and patients from unnecessary radiation exposure, prevent contamination of natural resources, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing the use of radioisotopes and X-ray producing units.

The proper use of radiation in healthcare can provide significant benefits; however, improper use poses risks of chronic illness, injury, or death.

Work Details
The contract involves the purchase of brand name or equal radiation safety badges. The requirements include:
- Whole body dosimeters: Luxel+ (measures down to 1 mrem for photon and beta radiation) and InLight (measures from 1 mrem to 1000 rem, energy range 5 keV to 20 MeV).
- Ring dosimeters: Saturn Ring (TLD technology with a minimum detection of 10 mrem for extremity monitoring).
- Neutron dosimeters: Neutrak (detects neutron radiation available in Fast only or Fast+Thermal configurations).
- The provider must be accredited by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) and hold current personnel dosimetry accreditation for the type of radiation monitored.
- FOB Destination delivery is required to the New York Harbor Healthcare System campuses located at Margaret Cochran Corbin VAMC in Manhattan and Brooklyn VA Medical Center.
