Description

Gun Drill work for the TF Raw Conductors

Tooling, Trial Runs and 3 first Articles per drawing and SOW.

Background
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), a National Laboratory and Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC), operated by Princeton University under contract to the United States Department of Energy, is seeking expressions of interest from qualified and experienced sources capable of providing deep drilling services used to create coolant channels in Toroidal Field (TF) conductor extrusions. The extrusions will be used in conjunction with the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) Upgrade Recovery Project.

Work Details
The work involves gun drilling the 0.374” ID water cooling hole from both ends of the solid conductor, with an overall conductor length of 236”+/- 1”. The specifications also include details such as the conductor material, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, hardness, offset of the actual center of the hole at the end of the drill from its theoretical center, water pressure drop across the conductor cooling hole at 2.5 GPM flow rate, and cooling hole bore smoothness.
