Background
The Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program is a major effort by the Air Force to replace the Minuteman III (MMIII) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system. The purpose of the GBSD program is to fulfill the Air Force's requirement for a total system replacement of MMIII to meet ICBM operational requirements through 2075. The GBSD Weapon System (WS) will be extremely complex, incorporating air vehicle equipment, command and launch systems, support equipment, software and hardware integration, facility upgrades, missile support base facilities, and test facilities. The estimated amount of this contract action is $25 billion.

Work Details
The scope of work for this effort will be to build upon the preliminary design completed during the Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) phase to develop, manufacture, and test a modular, integrated, affordable weapon system that meets operational requirements.

The Engineering & Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase will focus on maturing the design by completing subsystem Critical Design Reviews (CDR) which will culminate in a system CDR. The contract will include CLINs for development, test, evaluation, production of all parts of the GBSD WS along with networks, support equipment, test assets, technical data and associated technical data rights, computer software and associated license rights, interim contractor support, over and above repairs, training, initial spares, certification, product support, transition from MMIII, transportation services, emergency response services, and miscellaneous studies. The contract will end in the year 2032.
