The government has a need for contractor support for germanium (Ge) scrap recycling services. The government has in its custody Ge scrap material in the form of Ge windows and/or subassemblies containing diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated or thorium tetrafluoride (Th) coated Ge windows, which is government-furnished material (GFM). A minor portion of the GFM may contain non-coated Ge windows and cracked or splintered Ge windows. When the government's inventory of this material reaches a level of 500 50 kg or more of contained Ge, the government requires the transformation of these Ge-containing materials to zone-refined polycrystalline Ge ingots with a minimum purity of 99.999% by mass (5N) as specified in Attachment 1 to the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
