Geospatial Consortium Strategic Membership

On behalf of NOAA, NESDIS/ACIO-S is acquiring a Strategic Membership in Open GeospatialConsortium (OGC) to fulfill its mission and its functions. The NOAA National EnvironmentalSatellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS)/ Assistant Chief Information Officer (ACIO)mission and function is a leadership role in the NOAA-wide development of the NOAA IntegratedEarth Observation and Data Management systems architecture. Fundamental to its approach ingenerating guidelines for the implementation of data management capabilities is the commitment tosupport and leverage the efforts of organizations that are developing open standards to enable andenhance data system interoperability. The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC) is a non-profit,international, voluntary consensus standards organization that was formed to coordinate thedevelopment of open standards for geospatial and location-based services. With this acquisition,the OGC will provide NOAA with the rights that are granted with Strategic Membership. StrategicMembers lead the specification release and adoption process through their voting rights in thePlanning Committee (PC). This is a firm fixed purchase order for a total cost of $249,000.00 for oneyear of membership.
