Background
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Biological Technologies Office (BTO) is issuing this Special Notice (SN) to announce additional research areas of interest for the forthcoming Fleetwood program.

The program aims to develop novel catalysts for converting biomass resources into carbon-containing chemicals, thereby enhancing global chemical manufacturing and revolutionizing lignin valorization.

Work Details
The Fleetwood program focuses on investigating novel catalytic pathways to access lignin from real biomass sources, such as agricultural residues, woody biomass, and pulp and paper industry waste.

Researchers are challenged to develop catalysts and innovative methods for complete delignification and depolymerization of lignocellulosic feedstocks into value-added chemicals.

Catalysis pathways of interest include cell-free biocatalysis, thermocatalysis, and electrocatalysis.

Period of Performance
The Fleetwood program is structured over a 24-month period, consisting of a 12-month Phase 1 Base Period followed by a 12-month Phase 2 Option.

Place of Performance
The specific geographic locations for the performance of this contract have not been provided.
