Fecon Masticator Repair, Kenai NWR, AK   2

Background
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is issuing this solicitation for the repair of a Fecon Masticator, a piece of specialty tracked heavy equipment weighing 38,000 pounds and powered by 400 HP. The goal of the contract is to ensure the operational efficiency of this equipment, which is essential for the management of wildlife habitats at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.

Work Details
The contractor shall perform preventive maintenance and repairs on the Agency-owned Fecon masticator according to the attached statement of work (SOW). The specific tasks include:
- Loosening track tension on both tracks.
- Removing four upper track carrier rollers from the machine and replacing them with four new rollers supplied by USFWS personnel.
- Installing new hardware (provided) and torquing to specifications.
- Jacking or lifting the machine and securing it with cribbing.
- Removing and replacing the first and last lower track roller bearing on each side, using four new rollers and hardware provided by USFWS.
- Inspecting remaining track roller bearings for damage and replacing them if necessary.
- If sufficient slack cannot be gained by loosening track tension, splitting and removing the tracks will be necessary, which requires removing three track pad/grousers per side and removing track link pins/bolts.
- If tracks are removed, replacing pins, bolts, pads, and miscellaneous hardware before re-attaching tracks; all bolts must be torqued to specifications.
- Finally, re-tensioning the tracks.

Period of Performance
The period of performance for this contract is from November 21, 2024, to December 13, 2024.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at Kenai National Wildlife Refuge in Soldotna, Alaska.
