Former United Zinc Superfund site Remedial Action for Operable Unit 1 (OU1) FY

Background
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 (EPA Region 7) plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for Remedial action for lead-contaminated residential properties within the Former United Zinc Superfund site, located in the city of Iola, Allen County, Kansas. The project is being conducted pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), and National Contingency Plan (NCP) requirements. The actions described in this draft Performance Work Statement (PWS) are necessary to protect human health and environmental risks posed by the exposure to contaminated soil, sediment and mine waste containing lead and other heavy metals.

Work Details
The Performance Work Statement outlines the requirements for Remedial Action Three at the Former United Zinc and Associated Smelters Superfund Site in Allen County, Kansas. It includes details on project management, quality assurance and control, health and safety measures, on-site personnel, prioritization and scheduling of residential cleanups, recordkeeping, pre-excavation activities such as plans and road agreements, properties and site sketches, access agreements, drip zone sample collection, pre-excavation site walks, identification of utilities and buried structures.
