Edis Conserve Top Priority Stained Glass

Background
The National Park Service (NPS) is issuing this solicitation for the conservation of five historic stained glass windows located in Thomas Edison National Historical Park (EDIS), specifically in the Edison family home, Glenmont, New Jersey. The project aims to preserve these significant architectural elements created by artist George Hardy Payne around 1880, which are integral to the building's historical integrity and aesthetic value.

The NPS emphasizes the importance of maintaining these windows as they contribute to the overall historical narrative of America's most prominent inventor's residence.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:

1. Conservation of five historic stained glass windows, including a figural window transom in the Reception Hall, a center transom panel with a figure playing a harp in the Reception Room, and two transom side panels with an abstract floral design in the Pedder Library.

2. Removal of stained glass windows from their original locations and packing them securely for transport to an offsite conservation facility.

3. Temporarily sealing the openings where these windows are located during conservation work.

4. Reinstallation of the stained glass windows back into their original locations after conservation treatment is complete, ensuring that they are secure and stable within their surrounds.

5. Addressing any significant condition issues related to the window surrounds before reinstallation, including repairs to mitigate water infiltration and ensuring stability against theft.

Bidder Requirements
This solicitation is a 100% Small Business Set Aside. Bidders must have credentials as a Fellow or Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) or equivalent membership in a similar organization. Bidders must demonstrate past performance on similar projects involving stained glass conservation and provide at least three narrative examples with points of contact for verification.
