Draft Commodity Specification for Tree Nuts, April 2025

Background
The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) of the USDA is revising the Commodity Specification for Tree Nuts to consolidate multiple nut specifications into one comprehensive document. This revision aims to streamline the procurement process and ensure that all tree nuts meet specific quality and safety standards. The AMS is committed to providing high-quality agricultural products while adhering to strict regulatory guidelines.

Work Details
The contract involves the procurement of various types of tree nuts, including but not limited to:
- **Shelled Almonds**: U.S. No. 1 grade or better, with specific styles (Whole Natural, Whole Roasted) and size classifications ranging from 18/20 to 40/50 count per ounce.
- **Filbert (Hazelnut) Kernels**: Oregon No. 1 grade, with styles including Natural (Pasteurized) and Roasted, size between 10mm to 16mm in diameter.
- **Pecan Pieces**: U.S. Extra Fancy grade, size of 3/8 inch or larger with a maximum of 15% passing through a 3/8-inch opening.
- **Pistachio Nuts in the Shell**: U.S. Extra No. 1 grade, large size with an average of 21 to 25 nuts per ounce, must be naturally split.
- **Shelled Walnuts**: U.S. Commercial grade, must be English or Persian varieties, with specific size classifications and flavor requirements.

Each type of nut must meet stringent Aflatoxin, moisture, and microbiological standards as outlined in the specification document.

Products must be sourced from within the United States and comply with domestic origin requirements.
