On or after the publication date of this SAM.gov special notice, the DRAFT full text for the Announcement of Opportunity (AO) for the 2025Astrophysics Small Explorer (SMEX) will be available for download from the NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System (NSPIRES) at https://nspires.nasaprs.com. Background
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) is releasing a draft Announcement of Opportunity (AO) for community review and comment regarding the 2025 Astrophysics Small Explorer (SMEX).

The Astrophysics Small Explorers Program conducts Principal Investigator (PI)-led space science investigations relevant to SMD's astrophysics programs, aiming to discover the origin, structure, evolution, and destiny of the Universe and search for Earth-like planets.

Work Details
The draft AO invites participation from all categories of organizations or institutions, both U.S. and non-U.S., including educational, industrial, and not-for-profit institutions.

This includes the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs), NASA Centers, and other U.S. Government agencies.

The draft and final AO text will be available on the NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System (NSPIRES). Comments on the draft may be submitted via email to the Astrophysics Small Explorers Program Scientist with 'DRAFT 2025 SMEX AO' in the subject line. Responses to comments will be provided via email and posted on the Questions and Answers section of the Astrophysics Small Explorers Program Acquisition website.

Period of Performance
The comment period for the Draft 2025 SMEX AO ends February 21, 2025.

The release date for this draft AO is January 13, 2025.

Place of Performance
The contract work may be performed by various organizations across different geographic locations as it is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. entities.
