DOC NIST - Paver Maintenance and Repair MRAS

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), on behalf of the Department of Commerce (DOC), is conducting market research to support the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in addressing safety and aesthetic concerns at its Gaithersburg, Maryland campus. The focus is on the maintenance and repair of granite paver sidewalks and steps leading to Building 101, which have become uneven over time, posing a safety risk to pedestrians. The overall goal is to improve pedestrian safety while enhancing the visual appeal of the campus entrance.

The NIST intends to award a requirements contract valued at $350,000.00 for this project. The selected contractor will be responsible for leveling existing granite pavers and replacing any that are cracked, ensuring that replacements match the original appearance. This comprehensive work includes furnishing all necessary materials, labor, tools, equipment, transportation, supervision, administration, management services, and incidentals required for successful completion.

Specific tasks under this contract include cleaning existing granite pavers and joints following approval of a method statement by NIST; providing new mortar setting beds with wire mesh for unlevelled areas; resetting granite pavers on reinforced mortar beds; tuck pointing all joints; replacing cracked pavers as necessary; disposing of removed materials offsite; and performing final clean-up while repairing any construction-related damage. Contractors must submit detailed plans such as Safety Plans and Activity Hazard Analyses for review prior to commencing work.
