Description

The University of California, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is conducting market research to identify sources that possess the capabilities and experience necessary to provide a dilution refrigeration system for low-temperature measurements. The Physics and Material Sciences divisions at LBNL are performing quantum information and condensed matter experiments, and a new dilution refrigeration system is needed to reach the extreme temperatures necessary for this research. Please see the attached RFI document for details.

Background
The University of California, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is conducting market research to identify sources that possess the capabilities and experience necessary to provide a dilution refrigeration system for low-temperature measurements. The Physics and Material Sciences divisions at LBNL are performing quantum information and condensed matter experiments, and a new dilution refrigeration system is needed to reach the extreme temperatures necessary for this research.

Work Details
LBNL intends to acquire an instrument that meets or exceeds the following specifications. These are preliminary and subject to change.
- Cooling power > 12 uW at 20 mK, > 250 uW at 100 mK, base temperature below 8 mK
- Compatibility with an electromagnetically shielded room with minimal acoustic noise (< 65 decibel)
- Automatic temperature control from room temperature to 8 mK
- Standalone resistive heater at the 4K flange for faster warm-up
- Three-section vacuum can with frame height below 210.5 cm.
- Extended sample space (> 405 mm)
- Low-resistance DC wiring (< 5 Ohm) for cryogenic nano-positioners
- Two-dimensional grid of M4 x 0.7 threaded holes with a spacing of 2 cm on mixing chamber plate
- 3D high temperature superconductor leads for custom superconducting magnet integration
