Department of Defense Secure Access File Exchange Modernization

Background
The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Services Program Executive Office (SD) is undertaking a modernization effort for the Department of Defense (DoD) Secure Access File Exchange (SAFE).

The goal of this initiative is to enhance the existing file transfer system, which is a secure platform that facilitates file exchanges for authorized users, including DoD personnel and external mission partners.

The modernization aims to address current challenges such as performance limitations, security vulnerabilities, and usability constraints.

Work Details
The modernization effort will focus on several key areas:
1. Enhance Scalability: Ensure the platform can handle fluctuating demands automatically.
2. Strengthen Security: Implement robust security measures including multi-factor authentication and data loss prevention to protect sensitive information.
3. Improve Accessibility: Provide secure access options for users outside of the DoD.
4. Increase File Size Capacity: Support larger file transfers, ideally reaching 40GB.
5. Empower User Control: Allow users to customize data retention policies for their uploads.
