Demolition and Construction of Drinking Water Well   2

Background
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Pomonkey Facility requires a qualified contractor to drill a new water well for primary potable water supply. The project site is located at 7425 Bumpy Oak Road, La Plata, MD. The contractor will be responsible for providing all necessary supervision, labor management, facilities, supplies, equipment, and materials for the turn-key performance of the work. Well construction must be performed by a State of Maryland licensed well driller.

Work Details
The contractor shall perform the following tasks:

1. **Demolition/Decommissioning:**
- Decommission the old well according to Maryland state regulations, including filling it with dry bentonite and properly capping it.
- Prepare a Water Well Abandonment-Sealing Report signed by a licensed master well driller or supervising sanitarian.
- Remove existing pump, pressure tanks, associated pipe connections, and any devices related to the old well operation and dispose of materials properly.
- Remove electrical connections back to the point of connection. The existing well cannot be demolished until the new well is ready for connection.

2. **New Work:**
- Drill a new well within 50 feet of the existing one while ensuring protection from pollution. All required permits must be valid before and during construction.
- Provide a pump capable of pumping water with specified requirements (10 gallons/min flow rate). If static water pressure is too deep, a more powerful pump will be used.
- Install two pressure tanks with associated piping and fittings.
- The well depth is expected to be between 500-900 feet with specific casing requirements.
- Fill annular space with concrete grout and provide permanent casing with temporary cap.
- Ensure all work complies with local regulations and standards.
