Background
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is inviting submissions of innovative basic or applied research concepts in the technical domain of accelerated production of the daughter products of actinide radioisotopes, with a production process which mimics an alpha-emitting radioisotope’s natural half-life decay chain.

Work Details
Decay on Demand is requesting proposals to investigate experimental and theoretical avenues to increase production yield of novel daughter product radioisotopes in the decay chain of actinide radioisotopes. The primary objective is to identify a precision means of causing energy absorption into a radioisotope, to induce the emission of an alpha particle, thereby converting a significant fraction of parent radioisotope feedstock into its daughter products. The solicitation outlines two concurrent Tracks, each conducted in two Phases, over two years. Track 1 will conduct experiments to generate data with emissions spectroscopy as a function of radioisotope species, while Track 2 will analyze the results of Track 1 experiments and establish the basis of their theory. Deliverables include negotiated deliverables specific to the objectives of the individual efforts.
