PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Hand construct approximately 560 feet of new 72 wide, full bench stock trail through two washed out avalanche ravines, within a non-motorized wilderness designation. Work includes new trail construction with picks, rock bars, jack hammers, drilling and blasting. New construction is within extremely steep slopes, loose soils, extensive rock, eroding rock cliffs, outcroppings, and bedrock. Repeated, extensive surface and subsurface drilling and blasting will likely be necessary along numerous sections within these ravines to establish a 72 full bench trail, and remove excess material from the backslope and hillside above the trail. A full bench trail cut down to a solid subsurface material will be crucial to trail longevity. Backslope will be reduced to a 4:3 ratio in mixed material, and a 5:2 within rock. Material to be excavated is estimated at 962 cubic yards.

Hand construct a 48 wide bench approximately 20' above the new trail location, near the top of the trail's planned cut slope. This bench will serve to catch falling rock and debris from above during trail excavation, as well as provide a safe platform to begin excavation below, and an anchor point for rope work. Backslope will be reduced to a 5:2 ratio above this bench. Material to be excavated is estimated at 268 cubic yards.

Restore approximately 13,366 lineal feet of existing trail to the desired specification of a 36 width trail prism with a 24 finished tread. Backslope will be reduced to a 3:2 ratio.

Restoration includes reconstructing and cleaning existing drain dips and water bars.

PROJECT LOCATION: The project is located within a non-motorized wilderness designation within the Madison Mountain range approximately 22 miles northwest of West Yellowstone, MT. From West Yellowstone, follow north on highway 191 approximately 8 miles. Turn left or west on highway 287, and follow for approximately 14 miles to the Beaver Creek road, between Hebgen and Earthquake lakes. Turn right or north on Beaver Creek road #985, and follow for three miles to the West Fork Beaver Creek trailhead and beginning of project.

MAGNITUDE OF CONSTRUCTION (per FAR 36.204(b)): Between $250,000 and $500,000.

BONDING: All offerors will be required to provide a Bid Bond (20%) with their proposal submission. Performance and Payment Bonds (100% each) will be required of the successful awardee.
