Chickamin Barge Dry Dock Services

Background
This is a new requirement for dry dock services on the Chickamin Barge located in Southeast Alaska. The Tongass National Forest, located in Southeast Alaska, encompasses approximately 17 million acres spread out over the vast archipelago islands of Alaska’s panhandle where much of the work takes place in remote locations.

The Chickamin Barge is a 3 compartment steel hull with a two-story, wood-framed barracks mounted to the deck which requires hull maintenance every five years to support the life of the barge.

Work Details
The contract includes tasks such as towing, drydock, and hull work on the Chickamin Barge. It involves coordination with the government through all phases of the contract including inspections, towing, and recommissioning of the barge. The tasks also include sandblasting and painting of the exterior hull, zinc replacement, refurbishment of appurtenances, interior bilge painting, cleaning of water, fuel, and septic tanks, and service and certification of Zodiac Liferafts. The contractor shall provide a proposal demonstrating their capability for performing the services and supplies as required within the PWS.
