Background
The Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) is hosting a Proposers’ Day to support the Rare disease AI/ML for Precision Integrated Diagnostics (RAPID) Program. The goal of the RAPID Program is to end the prolonged diagnostic odysseys affecting millions of rare disease patients worldwide by accelerating the development of novel diagnostic support tools for population-scale rare disease detection. This initiative aims to democratize access to advanced diagnostic tools, ensuring that underserved and marginalized communities benefit from these innovations.

Work Details
The RAPID program will be conducted over two consecutive phases, focusing on several Technical Areas (TAs):

1. TA1 – Massive-Scale Rare Disease Dataset: Develop a large curated dataset of longitudinal rare disease patient health data by integrating fragmented data.

2. TA2 - Novel Diagnostic Indicators and Population-Scale Discovery: Use digital tools to collect data directly from patients, creating a multimodal dataset aimed at discovering novel diagnostic indicators.

3. TA3 – Sustainable Platform for AI Diagnostic Development: Establish a Rare Disease Data Commons with a benchmark dataset for developing and evaluating rare disease diagnostic models.

4. Model Benchmarking: Evaluate rare disease detection models through empirical benchmarking facilitated by an Independent Verification and Validation partner.

The program aims to transform the landscape of rare disease diagnosis and enable timely care for millions of patients while uncovering new disease insights and supporting drug development.

Period of Performance
The RAPID program spans 4.5 years (54 months), with Phase I lasting 21 months and an optional Phase II lasting 33 months.

Place of Performance
The Proposers’ Day will be held in San Francisco, CA, and virtually.
