BLM Wassuk Lop and Scatter 2026

Background
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is issuing this solicitation for the Wassuk Lop and Scatter project in the Wassuk Mountains, Nevada. The mission of the BLM is to manage public lands for multiple uses while ensuring the protection of natural resources. The goal of this contract is to perform tree thinning services to improve sage-grouse habitat and reduce wildfire intensity by managing pinyon and juniper woodland expansion.

Work Details
The contractor will be required to perform Lop and Scatter treatment on 1,026 acres, specifically targeting pinyon and juniper trees. The work consists of two treatment units: Baldwin Canyon Unit (317 acres) and Baldwin Highlands Unit (709 acres). Treatment specifications include cutting all pinyon and juniper trees smaller than 24 inches in diameter at ground level while maintaining a spacing of approximately 100 feet between live mature trees in the Baldwin Canyon Unit.

The project area is characterized by diverse vegetation typical of the western Great Basin, including grasses, sagebrush, mountain mahogany, and various tree species. Access to work areas may require specialized vehicles due to rough terrain.

Period of Performance
The contract period of performance is from September 15, 2026, to February 28, 2027.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed in the Wassuk Mountains located west of Hawthorne, Nevada.

Bidder Requirements
This solicitation is set aside for small businesses. Bidders must demonstrate technical capability through a narrative response detailing their understanding of project requirements, safety measures, and management strategies. Relevant experience must include at least two similar projects completed within the last five years. Bidders are also required to submit their Unique Entity ID (UEI) and CAGE code with their quote.
