Bldg. 154 - Boiler #3 Refractory Repair

Background
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agriculture Research Service (ARS) is seeking a contractor for the Boiler #3 Refractory Repair project located at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Iowa. The goal of this contract is to repair the firebox refractory and associated components to ensure compliance with air quality permits and maintain operational efficiency.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:

1. Repair of the boiler #3 firebox refractory, including the front burner wall, rear target wall, two view port locations, and mud drum connection manway repair.

2. Asbestos abatement of friable material found in the mud drum access openings, which are approximately 16 inches in diameter.

3. Removal and proper disposal of existing loose refractory and temperature-resistant insulation.

4. Installation of new refractory rated for 3000°F inside the firebox, ensuring it conforms to specified standards.

5. Restoration of work areas to pre-work conditions and provision of necessary facilities such as portable toilets and dumpsters.

An optional task includes replacing insulation in four equally sized manway openings with new ceramic blanket insulation.

Period of Performance
The contractor must commence work within 10 calendar days after receiving notice to proceed and complete all work within 180 calendar days.

Bidder Requirements
This acquisition is set-aside for small business concerns under a Total Small Business Set-Aside status. Bidders must provide performance and payment bonds within 10 calendar days after award. Contractors must have the necessary licenses for plumbing, heating, and air-conditioning.
