Background
The contract is issued by the Union Slough National Wildlife Refuge, which aims to restore drained wetland basins and seed existing cropland back to diverse prairie.

A Phase I Archaeological Survey is required before any restoration work can commence at the Wahl Waterfowl Production Area (WPA) located in Dickinson County, Iowa.

Work Details
The contractor will conduct a Phase I Archaeological Survey at the Wahl Waterfowl Production Area.

The survey must adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation, as well as the 'Guidelines for Archaeological Investigations in Iowa.' All work must be performed by or under the guidance of a professional archaeologist who meets the Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology.

The area of potential effects (APE) designated for archaeological survey is approximately 70 acres. A Permit for Archeological Investigations under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) must be submitted and approved by the FWS Region 3 Regional Historic Preservation Officer prior to commencing fieldwork. The contractor is also required to notify Ed Meendering, Refuge Manager, if cropland areas need to be disked before the survey.

The period of performance for this contract is from August 1, 2025, to December 1, 2025.

Place of Performance
The work will be performed at the Wahl Waterfowl Production Area, Superior Township, T. 100N., R. 35W., Dickinson County, Iowa.
