AFCS Structures Historic Context

Background
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has a requirement for the preparation of a Historic Context for Alaska Fire Control Service (AFCS) facilities and structures. The AFCS, established in 1939, was responsible for wildland fire protection in Alaska and has historical significance due to its role in managing federal public lands and providing fire protection during critical periods, including World War II.

The Glennallen Field Office, which is part of this contract, has evolved from temporary facilities to a larger land management facility over the years.

Work Details
The contractor shall prepare a Historic Context for AFCS facilities and structures managed by the BLM. This includes:
1. The Glennallen Field Office site.
2. The Slime Creek (Cantwell) Administrative Cabin.
3. The previously occupied Lake Louise Fire Station.

The development of the Historic Context will adhere to National Park Service Preservation Planning Guidelines.
