The US Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing 187Re and 187Os sulfide analysis as described in the attached Statement of Work.
This sources sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information for responding to this notice.
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code: 541380, Testing Laboratory, and associated size standard $16.5 million apply to this announcement, along with Product Service Code: B517, Special Studies / Analyses, Geological.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing 187Re and 187Os sulfide analysis. The primary responsibility of the task is to provide high quality analytical data for use in research studies. Geochronologic studies are important tools in understanding the metallogenic history of Alaska, and the need for such analyses is critical to solving geologic research problems. The contractor will participate in data interpretation, use, and publication of the data developed.

Work Details
The tasks for this contract are to provide 187Re/187Os analyses of sulfide minerals in mineralized rocks collected by geologists of the Geology Office of the Alaska Science Center of the USGS. The samples submitted will address a variety of geologic issues.
The contractor shall have a strong background in the application of 187Re/187Os in arsenopyrite, pyrite and molybdenite geochronology to geologic problems. Technical requirements include operating a geochronologic laboratory known for high quality work, uniform sample handling, sample preparation, and mass spectroscopic analysis vital to the goals of the various studies for which samples will be submitted. The time frame for completion of sample analysis will be not more than 30 days from the time of receipt.

10/1/2024 – 12/31/2028 including three option years

Performance shall be at the Contractor’s laboratory.
