Background
The Avionics Sustaining Engineering Services (ASES) contract aims to procure avionics support services for the C/KC-135 aircraft. The contractor is required to provide avionics engineering support to sustain the safety, suitability, and effectiveness of C/KC-135 avionics systems, subsystems, and their components. The C/KC-135 is scheduled to remain operational until 2046, necessitating a continuing need for avionics engineering sustainment support. The contract seeks agile sustainment software requirements and engineering services including design, modification, troubleshooting, liaison support, T.O. source data development, Technical Order (T.O.) sustainment, and software generation/maintenance for C/KC-135 avionics systems.

Work Details
The contractor must be capable of sustaining avionics systems for the C/KC-135 aircraft.
Collins Aerospace is the original manufacturer and integrator for over 95% of the C/KC-135 avionics including the Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM), Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) and Pacer CRAG (Compass, Radar and GPS) avionics modifications that provide for an integrated avionics solution on C/KC-135 aircraft.
The services and prototyping sought are highly specialized to C/KC-135 aircraft.
The heart of the integration is the programmable Multi-Function Display (MFD) and Flight Management System (FMS) that integrates with most avionics systems on the aircraft.
The MFDs and Control Display Units (CDUs) were purchased as Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment and the software for these systems is proprietary to Collins Aerospace.
