AST Safety Engineering Support Final SIR   3

Background
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is issuing this contract opportunity for advanced flight safety and system safety support to the Office of Commercial Space Transportation (AST).
The goal of this contract is to assist AST in fulfilling its public safety responsibilities related to commercial space launch and reentry activities, ensuring compliance with regulations and enhancing safety measures within the commercial space transportation industry.

Work Details
The contractor will provide comprehensive support including:
1. Evaluation of applications for commercial launch and reentry licenses, site licenses, and safety approvals.
2. Conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses of risks associated with commercial space transportation, including explosive safety, debris risk, toxic risk, and hazard area determination.
3. Supporting regulatory development, training, tool development, and research on advanced modeling concepts and computational tools.
4. Participation in project management activities such as preparing Project Management Status Reports (PMSR) and conducting quarterly Program Management reviews.
5. Operational safety support including evaluation and inspection of applicants/operators for compliance with safety-related regulations.
6. Research and development activities aimed at improving safety measures for launch and reentry vehicles.

Period of Performance
The contract includes a one-year base period with four one-year option periods, allowing for a total performance duration of up to five years.

Place of Performance
The work will primarily be performed at the contractor's facilities but may also require on-site presence at FAA locations as needed.
